Map of El Paso County, Texas

For as long as I’ve been around, El Paso County, Texas has been in the Western Territory of The Salvation Army.

In the United States, the country is divided up in to four territories; Eastern, Central, Southern and Western. I work in the Western Territory which stretches from Denver, Colorado to Sapian. The headquarters office is located in Long Beach, California.

Each territorial headquarters office handles management functions for the smaller operational units in the area. In typical Salvation Army fashion, it’s a cost-savings measure. For example, why have a legal, information technology, or property department in each regional office when we can have one main office where we handle the details for everybody? Right? It makes perfect sense to me too.

Something else that makes sense is that El Paso is now rejoining the rest of the state of Texas in our Southern Territory. We’ve enjoyed having them a part of things here in the West, but now we must say good bye.

Thank you for the happy times, El Paso. Enjoy your new Southern identity!
