This year we have a number of Christmas donation, awareness and volunteer initiatives for you to enjoy! Some are traditional – like the famous red kettles – and others are new for us, such as the Hanes virtual sock drive on Facebook!
Here’s our Christmas list and a link to more information online. If you don’t see something here that you want to know more about, just shoot me an email and I’ll track it down for you.
Red Kettle campaign – click here for a list of store chains in the Western United States that welcome the kettle! You may find our kettles in front of mom and pop shops, small regional chains, special event venues and other locations too. Support these great community partners – and the kettles!
Online Red Kettle – Now in it’s third year, the Online Red Kettle is an easy way for you to ring the bells from the comfort – and warmth – of your desk! Click here for a link to the website where you can set up and host your own kettle (or search for a kettle you’d like to support with a gift). And, you can use the Facebook widget to encourage all your friends to give.
iPhone, iPad & iPod Touch apps – We may be a 145 year-old charity but we’re on the cutting edge of high-tech gadetry this year with two handy Christmas applications: a free Bellringer app that allows you to ring the bell, make an online gift and learn more about The Salvation Army; and, a Christmas music app for $2.99 ($1.00 goes to the kettles!) that streams Christmas favorites from your device!
Volunteer links – We really need your help at the kettles this year, so if you’re itching to get out and ring the bells in your community, click here to be connected to a page of contact info, by city. If you don’t see your city on the list, send me an email and I’ll hook you up personally!
JC Penney’s ‘Angel Giving Tree’ – Our wonderful friends at JC Penney are at it again with a great program to connect givers with kids and senior citizens who need a little extra TLC this Christmas. Click here for a link to the JC Penney Angel Giving Tree website where you can select a kid or a senior in your area, and buy your gift online for delivery to The Salvation Army by JC Penney. We love JCP!
Hanes’ virtual sock drive on Facebook – When you click “like” on the Hanes Facebook page and also click “help us donate” on the sock drive tab, you’ll help The Salvation Army reach our goal of half a million pairs of socks for homeless people. Our thanks to Hanes for this wonderful, generous program!
Crunch Gym’s ‘Give a Knit’ campaign – In perhaps the most creatively-named initiative of the Christmas season, members of participating Crunch Gym locations can drop off gently-used sweaters and warm, winter items at the gym and receive a discount on Crunch retail goodies! Click here for a list of participating locations and more details. Be a holiday “sweater” (get it!?) and Give a Knit!
Stearns & Foster’s ‘Gift of Sleep’ campaign – Stearns & Foster is helping The Salvation Army offer a safe place to sleep and a good night’s rest. They’ll donate $100 towards a new mattress for Army residential programs for every Stearns & Foster mattress set sold by participating retailers through January 3, 2011. If you’re buying a new bed, now’s the time to get a Stearns & Foster! Click here to find out more and a list of participating retailers.
Red Kettle venues on Foursquare – Foursquare location app users can check-in at select red kettle sites in San Francisco and Anchorage this year! Click here for a list of venues for San Francisco; and here for Alaska.
