Did you know the Cubs honored a Salvation Army officer during the ’32 World Series?

The Chicago Cubs didn’t end their 2014 season on top but in 1932 they played against the New York Yankees in the fall classic. During that fourth game one of the Cubs’ most ardent fans ended her own season.
Her name was Eliza Shirley.

“Uncle Miltie” did his part to help The Salvation Army kettle campaign!

Uncle Miltie loves the Army!

This television legend was the first inductee into the Comedy Hall of Fame in 1991.

He was also a fan of the work of The Salvation Army and recorded TV spots to encourage the public to give generously.

He’s one of many notable people who filmed brief public service announcements for The Salvation Army during the 1950s through the 1980s.
