Famous for his gentle humor and love of golf, this comedian was one of a number of well-known people who gladly recorded short television ads during the 50s to the 80s to encourage the public to support The Salvation Army’s Red Kettle campaign.
And, he has something else special in common with The Salvation Army: his support for US troops.
In 1941 our Army joined a number of other charities in the creation of the United Service Organizations – called the USO. Now, no one is more closely associated with the USO than the comedian in today’s Red Kettle public service ad.
