October 20, 2014 – | No Comment

The Salvation Army is supporting 5,000 people with food since many who have recovered from Ebola often return home to find their possessions removed to ward off further infection. And teachers from The Salvation Army’s 12 schools in Liberia are being trained to provide Ebola awareness and hygiene education in the communities around the schools.

The first Salvation Army eBay store is open for business!

Submitted by on February 24, 2012 – No Comment

Polaroid camera, Washington DC SmarTrip card, and silver candlesticks on new eBay store!

The Salvation Army stores in Northern Virginia are the most successful Family Stores in the United States. And now they’re leading the pack, having opened the first official online thrift operation on eBay in October, 2011!

It’s called The Salvation Army Northern Virginia Adult Rehabilitation Center store!

Derek Anderson is the manager of the online store. Not only is he an alumni of The Salvation Army’s Adult Rehabilitation Center in Northern Virginia, he’s sold personal items on eBay for five years and managed three different Salvation Army Family Stores.

Put all that experience together and, voila, you have the ideal guy to manage our maiden foray into eBay store sales!

Derek’s staff of three are responsible for finding items appropriate for eBay, photographing them, writing descriptions, posting them online, managing payment, packing and shipping sales and customer feedback.

Speaking of customer feedback; they’ve got 99.8% positive rating and an eBay feedback score of 1123 in less than four months!

When I talked to Derek about how it’s going he was happy to tell me about a few of their success stories. One of my favorite concerns a vintage Omega watch.

After inspecting the watch and doing a bit of research, his team was convinced that they could get more for it by selling it online. Typically, a watch will sell for $39 at one of our stores.

But once online buyers saw the Omega on eBay and began to bid, and it eventually fetched a whopping $4,050!

Not surprising, the venture has been a success so far. In fact, The Salvation Army Family Stores in Houston and Baltimore / Washington D.C. are set to launch soon.

If you want to buy online and help the Army, click the following links to start the bidding!
