Actor Joel McHale raises money for Salvation Army Women’s Shelter!
The event – called “Gimme Shelter!” – was an evening of fun and festivity at Hale’s Palladium. Joel donated his time as emcee for the event and was joined on stage by several local artists: Chris Ballew, star of musical groups Caspar Babypants and Presidents of the United States of America; The Microsoft Jumpin’ Jive Orchestra; and four entertainers from the Moisture Festival – Henrik Bothe, Godfrey Daniels, Lara Paxton, and Bill Robison.
Joel is connected to the Seattle area because he grew up on Mercer Island and graduated from the University of Washington with a Bachelors and Masters in Fine Arts.
The Salvation Army Women’s Shelter in downtown Seattle offers a safe place for women to call home – a warm place to sleep, restrooms, and a kitchen. Women in need can stay at the shelter for several months, and have support from a caseworker to help transition to independent living. Currently, the shelter operates at full capacity (24 beds).
The goal for the shelter is to increase capacity to help twice as many women and Saturday evening’s event was a great start! Through sponsorships, ticket sales and a “raise the paddle” auction Joel’s event raised about $37,000.
We’re grateful to Joel McHale, Chris Ballew, The Microsoft Jumpin’ Jive Orchestra, and Henrik Bothe, Godfrey Daniels, Lara Paxton, and Bill Robison from the Moisture Festival. Thank you for a great night and a wonderful boost to our Women’s Shelter!
