ARAMARK employees Building Community at The Salvation Army in Glendale
One hundred volunteers participated in the day-long ARAMARK Building Community (ABC) event yesterday to create what they call an ‘Opportunity Zone.’ They added a fresh coat of paint and built shelving for the food pantry which serves hundreds of people per week. The gym got new fitness-themed murals and shelving for sports equipment, and the computer room got an inspiring new mural too.
But it doesn’t stop there. ARAMARK volunteers donate healthy items for the food pantry, and their culinary experts provide nutrition education to The Salvation Army in Glendale throughout the year. Company dietitians will also prepare nutrition tips and healthy recipes that people can prepare with the food they receive.
This is not the first time they’ve given their time and talent to help The Salvation Army: our Santa Ana Community Center, our Red Shield Community Center (in Pico-Union), our Santa Fe Springs Transitional Living Center in Whittier, and our Bell Shelter also got a helping hand from ARAMARK Building Community volunteers.
The company also donates the food for our Feast of Sharing Thanksgiving dinner and helps prepare it too. Every November, 4,000 hungry people are served a traditional Thanksgiving dinner with all the trimmings, thanks to the generosity of ARAMARK.
Clearly, ARAMARK is a leader in corporate action. Not only do they let their employees volunteer to help organizations like ours in the community, they organize the effort and back it up with products, expertise, time and talent.
They’re a good friend to The Salvation Army and we want to thank them for all they do to make life better for the people we serve.
