As lava flows toward Hawaii town, Salvation Army is prepared to help

According to the Weather Channel, hot, molten lava from the Kilauea volcano is slowing creeping toward 900 homes in the city of Pahoa on the Big Island of Hawaii. Thankfully, Salvation Army personnel are already prepared to respond with food and water for displaced residents, emergency management workers and volunteers through the use of our mobile kitchen – called a “canteen.”

A volunteer experience at The Salvation Army changed Carissa’s life and plans

Carissa needed to get some volunteer hours for school so her friend suggested she contact The Salvation Army.

Concerned about what she thought would be “church people,” Carissa gave it a reluctant try and learned something about herself in the process.
