Help us honor Doug Holladay’s final wish to ring the bell for the Army that loved him
The Salvation Army in Ogden is honoring the final wish of a former employee, Douglas Holladay. He wants to ring the bell and collect donations for the Red Kettle on behalf of The Salvation Army.“We want to honor Doug’s final wish of ringing the bell and collecting donations for the Red Kettle. It is the very least we can do for him. Doug has a big heart and his commitment to give back is honorable” commented Lieutenant Sam LeMar, Corps Assistant for The Salvation Army in Ogden.
Douglas Holladay is suffering from terminal lung cancer, his health is quickly declining. Although his liver and kidneys are shutting down, his resilient desire and spirit to give back is admirable. His doctors cannot guarantee that he will live to see one more Christmas.
Holladay commented, “I suffered from alcoholism and drug addiction many years ago. The Salvation Army was there for me when everyone else turned their back. They loved me until I learned to love myself. This is an honor for me – to give back what was so freely given to me. I am not leaving my post until we fill 3 Red Kettles. If I have to stay all night ringing the bell for donations I will.”
The public is encouraged to stop by the Wal-Mart in Riverdale to meet Douglas and show their support by making a donation to The Salvation Army.
