The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Centers – we just call them Kroc Centers – are a gathering place for the cities and neighborhoods they serve.

People join a Kroc Center to find community and meet their health and fitness goals in a supportive, friendly environment.

Lewis Williams got that and much, much more. He is a member of our Kroc Center in Suisun City, which is located in California’s Solano County, about 20 miles from the famous Napa Valley.

A former law enforcement officer, Williams was diagnosed in 2000 with a renal disease that caused his kidney to attack its filtering system. His doctors said it would be at least eight years before it would be his turn on the transplant list.

Kroc Center employee Sidney Clark knew about Williams’ diagnosis and need for a new kidney so he told colleague Christopher Hernandez the story.

What Hernandez did next will surprise you and bring you to tears! Click here to read the rest of the story on the Daily Republic newspaper website.
