Have you ever sat in a room with dozens of former addicts, listening to them describe their struggle? I recently attended a conference of men and woman who, at one time in their lives, have been part of a Salvation Army drug and alcohol program.
Hearing them tell their stories is pretty humbling. Especially when you realize that they’re each telling a story that someone you love could also tell. Someone whom you desperately want to help.
Life is difficult and many of us – and those we love – use alcohol or drugs as a numbing agent. It’s hard to know what to say or do for a loved one who’s lost control and has become mired in addiction.
Melissa has something to say to them.
If we asked her, she’d tell us, “It’s okay not to be okay. Don’t give up…there’s always somebody that you can turn to that knows what you’re going through. You just need to ask for help.”
If you have a friend or family member who needs comprehensive residential rehabilitation, please show them this video. And when they’re ready for serious, furture-changing help, use the zipcode finder in the upper right corner at www.satruck.org to find the closest center.
And remember, everything you donate to or buy from a Salvation Army Family Store helps someone like Melissa receive no fee, residential drug and alcohol rehabilitation in a caring, supportive, Christ-centered environment.
