Find a National Donut Day event in the Western US!

Next week is a major holiday we observe here at The Salvation Army in the US. It’s not a religious holiday imbued with deep meaning and eternal significance. No, it’s National Donut Day on Friday June 5th.

Because, donuts.

In keeping with our tradition to honor this fine day by revering our nation’s veterans and eating donuts (surprise!), here’s a list of activities that are open to the public so you can make this holiday part of your life too!

Salvation Army Capt. Jennifer Cortez’ ministry “on the move”

Salvation Army Captain Jennifer Cortez doesn’t have a building but she has a flock of 800 souls she’s served through The Salvation Army’s Mobile Ministry. Her schedule is packed and she works hard but says that the ministry’s following is not because of anything she’s done.

“It’s not because I am good, it’s because Jesus is doing His work through the Holy Spirit. People notice that,” said Captain Cortez.

Truck donated by FedEx helps Salvation Army comfort responders to San Francisco blaze

Earlier this week there was a massive structure fire in the Mission Bay District of San Francisco. Two teams of Salvation Army Emergency Disaster pros and volunteers were deployed immediately in mobile kitchens – about the size of a standard parcel delivery truck – to serve food, beverages and moral support to the 400 firefighters on hand and those evacuated from their apartments.

No debate about these guns…

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick’s guns, to be exact. One of his now-famous ‘guns’ was fashioned into a cake by the culinary artists at Village Baking Co & Cafe in Modesto, California and orders poured in. They have one last cake and are taking $10 donations from folks who want to be entered into a drawing to win it. The money raised will go to The Salvation Army Red Shield in Modesto.

Hungry and homeless people get a pre-meal sing-along with Salvation Army Captain in Modesto

Captain Michael Paugh is The Salvation Army leader in Modesto, California. He and his wife Beth are responsible for several programs that serve people in need in the Central California town.
